Why was Jack in Jail?

jackinjailYesterday we posted a picture of Jack in jail for Black & White Sunday and promised an explanation today. For those of you who proclaimed him innocent. I present our case:

If you are a reader who went to BlogPaws, you know the big huge bag of swag we all took home. For those of you who didn’t go, we wrote about it and presented a picture of it in a previous post. Needless to say, it was a big bag, filled with treats, toys and other great products.

When we got home, I stored our two bags in the ‘guest’ bedroom and promptly forgot about them. Last weekend, I remembered and went back to sort through everything. Many of the treats had chicken in them, so we can’t give them to Jack. I was planning to box them up and take them over to our local shelter.

Jack helped me out and got a few treats of the non-chicken variety and another little gorilla stuffie to play with. We finish up the sorting, I closed the bedroom door and went about our day.

Later that evening, we are sitting in the living room watching TV and I realize that Jack is MIA, and he has been for awhile. Now mind you, Jack is a mama’s boy and he doesn’t leave my side for very long – you never know when I might need saving from the dishwasher or my iPad or something. So when I realized he hadn’t been around for a bit, I got up to look for him.

He was no where to be found in the backyard and not in the front yard either. I didn’t even think about the bedroom because I had closed the door. Well, I guess I didn’t close it enough or someone else in the household (who shall go nameless) opened it. But of course, there’s Jack…in his glory.

He had pulled the bag of treats off the bed and strewn it around the room and was slowly working his way through whatever plastic bag he could easily open. Luckily he had only demolished one small one and was just starting on the second bag of treats when I found him.

Needless to say he is paying much closer attention to that bedroom and the state of the door than he ever did before. It warrants at least 1-2 trips a day down the back hallway to see if the magic door fairy has come and opened it for him.

He ended up in jail, but I think he looks quite happy about it. “Worth every second” he says.

And for those of you concerned that we ‘punish’ our dogs…the jail footage was staged 😉

  1. I would have done that too. Hope you got your paws on some of the (non-chicken) treats? 😉

    • It was chicken, but luckily not enough to do any damage other than some itching.

  2. He looks pretty triumphant to me. Mr. N is very good about ignoring food. We had a BBQ and there was meat and cheese where he could reach it and he left it alone for hours. Now ignoring other dogs is a much different story…

    • Jack can ignore it if we are around to keep an eye on him, but no supervision? That’s a different game.

  3. Haha I still think he is innocent. I think it’s awesome that jack at his age is getting into mischief. Makes me feel a little better about Gman. Jack didn’t do much as a young dog so maybe Gman won’t do much as a older dog? Or I could only hope. I’ll post it up later but Gman was naughty this weekend too. I know surprise surprise but I left him run loose while I mowed and of course he ate a whole package of buns so back to jail with him.

    • Well, we’ve only had Jack a few years, so who knows what he did as a younger dog. He ended up getting tossed out of his house and was found wandering in Simi Valley park…so I’m not sure he was good or not 🙂

  4. I do believe the crime was worth the time. Perhaps he read about Bert eating through my bag and thought he should give it a whirl too! Poor Jack!

  13. The time was well worth the crime! I think he’d take that trade any day.

  14. I would have done the same thing Jack. Mom puts the bags up high so I can’t get them being height challenged and all (as I was caught with my head buried in them a few times). Doesn’t matter where just how high. Hope you are out of jail soon. Love Dolly

  16. Haha! Good boy, Jack! You aren’t afraid to live a little! 🙂 We have a certain cat who would’ve been into those treat bags in an instant.

You look pretty proud of yourself in the “jail” pic. Haha!

  18. Jack my boy, your mission was somewhat sabotaged before you could complete it. So sorry 🙁 But at least you got to taste a little. Glad it wasn’t the chicken, do you need bail money. Harley has a couple of dollars – just let us know…

  19. It is obvious to the court that Jack was simply trying to redo some of your sorting. He was helping when a bag burst open and being a perfect dog, he was forced to clean the spill despite the risk to his own allergies. Hee hee! Bentley knows that we stashed our treats in the spare bedroom too. Freedom for Jack! : )

  24. That is the happiest jail bird I have ever seen! He does not look the least bit sorry for his dilinquency and I think he has the capacity to be a repeat offender. Oh Jack!
I am so happy for both of you that it was a small amount and Jack didn’t have to pay too much for it. I think he feels the scratching was well worth it 🙂
