Walk Your Dog on Mischief Monday

walk-your-dog-hop-button_thumbIt never seems to fail that Jack gets into some mischief whenever I’m trying to do a ‘photo’ walk. For the new Walk Your Dog Hop, I wanted to share the view of our valley from the other side of the mountains around us, so last weekend we drove over to the one road that goes up to the top and over the other side of the hills and walked up the road – not quite the top, but to a spot pretty far up that gave us a view of the valley.

This photo gives a good wide shot of the Valley from this vantage down towards the our house.

SRValley101This is a close-up shot of the above with a few key points of interest. Our home is over there under the trees to the right of that yellow pin. The blue pin shows the hill we climbed last month for K9 Kamp and the red pin is the now famous pepper field!

SRValley105Finally, here’s the view down the valley towards the ocean. You can see where the land ends and the ocean begins, but that blue isn’t really the water, its the morning marine layer, but you get the idea. And no, I can’t see it from my house, not even close.

SRValley103Nice walk, where’s the mischief you ask?  Well, as you can see, there’s a lot of trails around our house and a lot of folks with horses. I’m standing near a large farm with a number of horses…actually I was standing close to their discarded pile of manure without even realizing it. So while I was busy snapping all these great pictures, well you can imagine what Jack and Maggie were doing. Mom Fail.

  1. LOL
When Rodrigo was going through this Terrible Twos (he wasn’t 2 yet), I took him to our dog trainer’s property for some extra training. After he and Sydney went through some routines, they got play time. She has horses, donkeys and lives on 5 acres. Sydney stayed next to me (surprise surprise) and Rodrigo went to investigate.

At one time, he peeked around a corner at me, standing there until we made eye contact, and then he wandered off. I sighed and said “he’s heating horse poop.” My trainer said “yep.” And then she congratulated me on being able to understand my dogs so well.

Even today, whenever Rodrigo is about to do something I’m not going to be happy with, he peeks around a corner until he gets my attention. I appreciate the opportunity to redirect his focus.

  2. Dogs are experts in knowing when the human isn’t paying attention. So yeah, you’re not paying attention … whatever happens is in your head! LOL

Jasmine was particularly good at this … and patient to no end … and then, all you had to do was sneeze … 😉

  4. Ha ha! I can certainly see Maggie and Jack up to a little mischief! These are great photos – they make me miss Southern California, though I do love NorCal. Definitely lots of great places to walk!

    • I know – when I stop and look around or look at these pictures, it really makes me appreciate where we live.

  5. Oh no! Mr. N is incapable of behaving around horses as well… only he wants to chase them. No sense of size right?

  6. Brilliant! The amount of times I’ve had to pull Kate away from cow, wombat, possum, kangaroo, you name it poop! Why is it so delicious to them?? Great to see the variety in trails you have so easily accessible to you! Lots of adventure opportunities! Great post!

  8. Such beautiful scenery! The Blue Ridge Mountains have gorgeous views like that too — especially now with the leaves having turned; and in the spring once the flowers, trees, and shrubs start blooming again — but I haven’t had the chance to get up there this year. I can definitely imagine Jack & Maggie getting into some of the “good stuff” (well, to them it is)!! 🙂

  10. LOL, what is with dogs and horse poop anyway? Beautiful view.

  11. I would absolutely love to climb that hill one day! What a gorgeous area to walk/hike!
Leroy’s been enjoying a little to much horse poop eating lately too since we are walking on bridle trails. I need to pay more attention to him rather than all the gorgeous fall trees!

  12. We walk a lot of mixed use trails, horses and dogs/humans, so we often encounter horse poo…lucky for me Gizmo ignores it…Florida is great, but when I see photos like yours I get “elevation envy” We don’t get to see vistas like this Thanks for joining the hop!

    • Be thankful Gizmo ignores it – Maggie used to, until she saw Jack digging it, so then of course she had to try it…

  13. Lovely pics. Too funny about the horse poop fail. The shelter I volunteer at also has horses, so we definitely have to pay attention when walking the pups on the property!

You live in such a beautiful area!

  18. Oh no, was it bath time again or did they just munch on it? Beautiful views!

I love the photos of your valley… And, I can’t wait to read more about Maggie, since she sounds so much like our Shyla. I’ll have to read the “back story” tomorrow!

  21. Looks like you guys had a great adventure for the Walk your Dog BlogHop. The pics made me laugh though cause i thought one had lots of balloons in it….worked out they were pins when i read further 🙂 Funny about the rolling in horse manure too…that’s where my pup would’ve been too!! Much mischief going on too….
