Update | Resolve to Move Your Mutt

jackresolution102 At the end of last year, we held a Resolve to Move Your Mutt Blog Hop. The goal was simple: set a New Year’s Resolution for you and your dog and share that resolution with a cute photo. We had nineteen Bloggers join the Hop and lots more join us on Facebook.
Given we are almost to the end the Q1 for 2014, I think it’s time to check in on our progress.
Jack’s resolution was to work on his back legs. In addition to his normal exercise programs, we have been doing some additional standing exercises with Jack – things that help both his core and his hind legs.
Jack knows sit very well, so we use that to have him sit – stand – sit – stand. Each time he does it, he’s using his back legs. I would say we’ve done pretty good keeping up with this resolution – maybe a “B”.
Maggie’s resolution was to rehab her right shoulder so she could run again. I’m happy to report that Maggie’s shoulder seems to be just fine. It took several weeks of rest and then a slow, incremental increase in walking and then running, but she is back to her pre-diagnosis level of running (2X per week for 25-30 minutes and 2 walks per day of 20-45 minutes each. She’s doing just fine, no sign of a limp. We do continue to give her 1/2 rimadyl each day to help with the inflammation but will continue to wean her off of that as long as she stays stable. I give Maggie an A+ on her New Year’s Resolution.
Now, how about YOU? How are you doing on your Resolutions? Keeping up or falling into mischief? It’s not to late to get back into the swing of things. A resolution is for the entire year, so there’s still plenty of time.
Let us know how you are doing in the comments or on our Facebook page – photo updates welcome!

We are joining up with the Monday Mischief Blog Hop, hosted by Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog and My Brown Newfies

  2. Actually, surprisingly this year I have been doing great on my resolutions!
I wanted to get out more and do more things with the dogs, and that I have! We have been out every single day doing yard training, and walks and playing in the snow! It has been a great winter!

  4. Way to go on your progress. We just saw the vet this past week for Dexter. He had ACL surgery in September of 2013 and as of this point, he has full mobility and strength back. Now as soon as the weather improves, we will be outside more and longer walks and play time at the park nearby. However, we do lots of indoor activity and year-round mental and physical stimulation.

    • So glad to hear Dexter is back to full strength. ACL surgery can be a real bear, so well done!

  5. Way to go on those resolutions! We’re just grateful that the weather is cooperating so we can all (canines and humans) enjoy getting active outside.

  6. Good job to you! We are compulsive exercisers around here so no resolutions for us. But, Shyla is on the road to losing the 2 lbs that the vet ordered!

  7. Hi, I’m Flea’s mom from Jones Natural Treats. My fur baby is Honey the Shih Tzu.
She is 6. I just took her off chicken and her allergies are much better, but, still lingering. She licks her feet and around her mouth. I’ve tried several of the Dick Van Patten small dog bags mixed with either sweet potatoes or brown rice with carrots, green beans, and peas mixed with bone meal, ascorbic acid to help her PH, and beet brewers yeast. When I got her from the pound, she had a 2″ stone in her bladder from years of wrong diet. Her PH is back to normal now with the addition of the ascorbic acid.
Flea said you have a chart ??? of the different makes of dog food showing the ingredients. Are there any in particular you might recommend for Honey?
Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    • Glad that Honey is doing better and yes, their food plays such an important roll in their health. We do have a database of food that you can search – and you can search for foods with or without particular ingredients: http://slimdoggy.com/dogfood/ Give it a try and let us know if you have questions.

  10. We have been doing much better and with the longer days and beautiful weather, we are walking the boys longer. All of us are benefiting but sadly, I have to give us a C. We promise to bring it up to at least a B! Congratultions on all of your success!

  11. I fell off that wagon a long time ago. 🙁 I walk with a friend a couple of days a week, and I take Chewy to puppy training, but the dogs play mostly in the yard or house for activity.

  12. I love to run with Eko, but polar vortices have stymied a number of our scheduled romp. Looking forward to warm weather with lots of runs.

  13. Excellent job on keeping your resolutions! Glad Maggie has rehabed so well.

  14. That is especially great news about Maggie’s shoulder! We’re doing so-so at our resolutions, good on some, not so good on others…..but I am thinking about it all the time and this post will remind and inspire me to do better!

    • That’s what we hoped – that we’d just remind people because we know it’s so easy to forget. Good luck.
