Linda Cole at the Canidae blog posted this piece on Color Bias and pet adoption  Responsible Pet Ownership Blog: Helping Black Dogs and Cats Get Adopted.

It is rather remarkable to learn that black colored dogs (and cats) are less likely to be adopted (and thus more likely to be euthanized).

According to Linda, “The ASPCA has found that a dog or cat with more than 65 percent of a black or dark coloring in his coat is less likely to be adopted.”

Having owned 3 black dogs (so far), I have never thought much about color when evaluating a dog for adoption.

Lets take a quick poll.  Have you ever consciously or unconsciously passed on a dog because they were black?  Post your answers in the comment section below.
