Monday Mischief – Senior Style

August was designated Senior Pet Awareness Month by BlogPaws. We appreciate the special honor and treatment for seniors as the older guys are very dear to us – to most of us I think.  We have written several posts about seniors this month including:

Today we thought we’d take a little different look at seniors. As dogs grow older, they tend to slow down – just like humans. They aren’t as fast out the door for their daily walks, nor do they like to go as far. Our Tino was no exception. In his younger years, Tino was full of mischief  and I’ve written about his escapades frequently on the Monday Mischief Blog Hop. If you’ve missed any of them check out our Tale of Tails: Tino

After Tino went blind and as he got older, his favorite pastime became sleeping. It never failed that at least once a week I would discover him sleeping in some new and unusual spot. In honor of Tino, who left us just about two years ago, I thought I would do a little pictorial of some his favorite spots.

Tino sleepingAnd this photo is by far my most favorite picture of Tino. It was taken the day we let him go – at @15 years old. He was napping under the big trees in our backyard dappled by sun. I took this photo shortly before the vet arrived.

  3. Oh dear, this post has my mom’s eyes all teared up. Senior dogs are so wonderful. They still have mischief in their system but it is a different kind of mischief, usually. My sister enjoys sleeping more and more. Mom has bought numerous beds that supposedly help with arthritis but she always chooses the hard floor or the yard. You can’t help but love a senior pup!

    • I tear up when I think of him too. Becca who had a lot of spinal issues and arthritis used to choose to sleep on the floor when it was particularly bad – maybe it provides more support?

  4. It looks like Tino had some wonderful spots to nap! I just love when dogs curl up and sleep, it makes me want to snuggle right up next to them.

Love the last photo of Tino, he looks so content.

    • The best was when I couldn’t find him and I’d have to go wandering around the yard looking for him. Such a nut.
