Monday Mischief – Bath Time

Hi everyone, Jack here. Last week I started to get a little itchy again, so momz said it was bath time for me and Maggie. Maggie couldn’t figure out why my itching meant she had to have a bath, but I guess that’s just the way momz think. I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of my wisdom regarding bath time and acceptable bathing behavior and protocol.

It’s important to appear to cooperate when momz and/or dadz tells you it’s bath time. If you do, you are more likely to get treats to ease your pain and suffering. It’s perfectly acceptable to look pitiful while in the bath. Who do you think looks more sorrowful – Me or Maggie?

But the most important lesson of bath time is the proper dry off technique. It’s so critical, I thought I would make an instructional video so all you newbies or inexperienced doggies could learn from a master. Momz said she was going to put some music in the background, but I told her the noises I make are crucial to the success of the drying off, so she left them in. Watch and Learn…

  1. That is a great technique . . . . we hope you got a little dirt back on you since you had to have a bath in the first place:)

  2. I think Jack looks slightly more miserable. Mr. N rolls around after a bath too but he does it on whatever fabric he can find including the carpet.

  3. maggie is more pitiful, jack, doing the happy dance, or actually happy roll, in the yard brings a smile, how great he must feel!

  4. It’s a toss up on the pitiful face, we look the same way though.

  5. OH Jack! I don’t get bathed at home (I go to the vet for that!) but if I did, I would use the technique you so ably showed in your video for sure! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

    • I’ve tested many methods, and this seems to be best…although walking back and forth between momz legs works well too, but she tends to fall over when I do that.

  7. I saw your sad faces this weekend on FaceCrack, Jack. You poor, poor babies. I hope momz had some Jones chews on hand for after-bath. I love how you roll in the grass, though!

    • No Jones chews 🙁 but the did get marrow bones from the grocery store, so they were pretty happy.

  8. I am a firm believer that no matter what anyone tries to tell me, BATH is a four letter word…just don’t like that smelly shampoo stuff humans love to use!

  9. Thank you for that excellent instructional video. I will practice all your moves and noises (as well as your pitiful look) before the next time I am bathed. I will have to substitute the carpet for the lawn however since my dad keeps the doggy door shut after mt bath. 🙁
    Thanks for your help! ~Cooper

  10. Boy, tough call on which one of you looks more pitiful! Rita had that same look on Sunday when she had to have a bath! (Rolled on some neighbor’s lawn and somebody hadn’t completely scooped their pup’s poop. So gross.) She would love to try that drying off technique, but we don’t have any grass. Had to keep her in the house after in case she would try that in the dirt on the side of the house!

Now she smells fabulous – like blueberries! And she got “ear candy” (a pig’s ear) after. I see you guys got marrow bones. Yum!

    • Blueberries – yum…Jack has to have medicated for his itchies.

  11. I hope that was CLEAN grass you were rolling around in, Jack! I’d say both you and Maggie look pretty pitiful. I had been thinking about trying the dog bath in our walk-in shower, but haven’t done it yet. It looks like it might work out well, easier than the tub?

    • So much easier…they walk in, we all stand there…they walk out. Less bending over too.

  12. LOL bet you were good and dry after that! We just shake all over but rolling looks fun!
