Maggie CREATES a Home
Our Maggie May has been with us for almost 3 years now. It’s been a challenge because she was an extremely fearful girl when she came to our home. She came from a puppy mill breeder situation and had been kept as a breeder mom for 8 years. She got tossed out when she got too old to have pups, but lucky for us, she found her way to our family.
Maggie hit a tipping point in getting over her fears in the last six-eight months. We’ve written about it a couple of times, Maggie Magellean, Maggie Learns to Swim, Maggie Masters the Dog Door. These may be seemingly minor victories, but for her, they are major and we are so proud of her and thankful to big brother Jack for helping.
Her latest behavior change is the amount of time she spends outdoors. For the first two years we had her, she spent most of her time inside, in her bed. She was reluctant to explore the backyard and would go out, do her business and come right back inside, into her safe zone…her bed. Learning to use the dog door a few months ago opened up a new world and the freedom to come and go as she pleased. And apparently, it pleases her to be outside most of the day.
Her favorite spot is under the deck stairs and as you can see, she has created, not one, not two, but THREE well excavated holes to curl up and sleep in.
I thought her CREATION would be a good photo for this week’s #52Snapshots #PBSG photo challenge. The theme is CREATE and Maggie has created a cozy little home for herself, both in our hearts and under the deck.
