K9Kampbadge_250We are so excited that K9 Kamp is back again with a great theme and an awesome prize package for our Kampers. (Scroll to the bottom for prize sign-up).
SlimDoggy’s main goal is to get everyone participating, so as long as you have a dog…you can be a K9 Kamper. How? Just grab your dog and get out in the backyard. Today we’re going to show you some very simple exercises you can do with your dog. Most of these we’ve done before, but you can set it up like a boot camp course and go from one exercise to the next. This is JACK & MAGGIE’s  interpretation of Backyard Fitness Games.
And we want to see YOUR version of Backyard Fitness Games. Please take a photo of you doing a fun backyard game with your dog and send it to us (info at slimdoggy dot com) or post it on our Facebook page, or on your Instagram account with the hashtag #K9Kamp.

We start with a little warm-up – Jack gets his FitVest on and he’s ready to go. Dad sets up the boot camp course.

First series is weaving between the cones. Maggie loves chasing dad, so she’s a star at this. Jack, not so much. He thinks dad dropped a treat on the grass back here, so he’s doing his ‘nose work’, or so he says.

Then we get into the balance work. First dad does some core work while Jack and Maggie supervise.

Then Jack shows off his balance skills.

Maggie, well balance is an exercise she still struggles with. You can see from this series…she knows dad has a treat and stretches as far as she can to get it. Still can’t reach, maybe if I sit, he’ll give it to me. No? Well, the heck with it then, I’m just going to go around this stupid thing, but I will NOT step on it.

Finally, the cool down and not a minute too soon.

Don’t forget our Great Prize Package we have for K9 Kamp. Check it out:junek9kamp2_final

  1. Nice fitness course! We always have chase and wrestle going on in the backyard, and now we also do some nose work out there. We will get a photo up soon.

  2. What great backyard fun! Sometimes I wish we had a big enough backyard for more fun but then I remember I’d have to mow… and I’d rather be out and about or on the road!

  3. Looks like you all had fun. Maggie is funny trying to get the treat. Mostly I like to walk with the dogs. My new phone has a pedometer on it, so that is extra incentive. 🙂

  4. Looks like you had a blast!

  5. I have five rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds, including one senior and four that are in the 4-5 year-old range. My senior girl, Suki, still wants to take long walks, but because of her age and the health changes that go with it, we’ve had to shorten the length of her walks. She still loves them more than anything. They ALL love walks, although I usually have to take the others two at a time. We have a walking/bike path by us that even has stops with poop bags and a garbage can for those walking dogs. When we have time and the weather is good, I love taking them to the trails at the forest preserves just into IL from us, or even better, the Indiana Dunes. My “pack” loves to just run around the yard and participate in what I can only describe as a dog version of WWF wrestling. When I’m in the yard with them we play chase or tuggie with their rope toys. They’re very active

  6. Great backyard course! Happy first day of K9 Kamp!

  7. I love your backyard fitness course. We have a small yard, but I’ve always dreamed of one like that. But part of K9Kamp is discovering that Backyard Games can be played anywhere…backyard, front yard, park, or even on the sidewalk. Wherever you can get outside, be safe, and have fun.

  8. My favorite activity to do with Schooner and Skipper is swim laps in our pool. We are in the pool a couple of times a day during laps. We also have a standard jump my husband made for the dogs.

  9. Hi Y’all!

Now y’all are really parading your fitness! Looks like an advanced rally course!

  12. Nice course! Our dogs do agility to keep fit!

  13. It looks like Jack and Maggie earned a nap! Since we live in an apartment, we don’t get a lot of backyard games in–we are lucky to have a little back patio and a nice grassy area to play in, but since Barley always has to be on her long lead out there, our games are more limited. We do get lots of noseworks practice out there, though, and we do some practice with stay and recall, but Barley’s favorite game is squirrel watching and chasing 🙂

  15. Hands (and paws) down our favorite activity to do together is hiking! Finding new and interesting places to get out and walk is also a favorite of ours, and I’m starting to look into doing some yoga with the dogs, but I think that’s more for me than for them…

  17. Great fitness course. Just entered the giveaway. Hopefully we win and Veruca can practice balancing on that half ball. I have a feeling she might hop around the obstacle just like Maggie.

  18. Chewy was the same as Maggie with the stretching over and running around the balance disc! But now he happily gets on the discs and wags his tail. Go, Maggie, go!

Our favorite activity is playing chase. Chewy’s version of chase is kind of like how kids play tag, with bases and everything! He will run under the table and be like “I’m safe!” and take a breather.

  20. Riley loves agility and just recently we discovered how much fun fetching a Frisbee can be! I never knew she had it in her. Trixie’s favorite form of exercise is actually an indoor activity, we do sprints up and down the hallways!

  21. Our favorite activity in the yard is definitely playing fetch! Sometimes I also run sprints, and my dog chases me for the first sprint or two and then just watches! We also like to work on tricks like “spin” and “backup” and “take a bow.”

(He does have these things, but he wants to build the biggest course our garage can possibly hold! Oh wait. He says we need the second sets for the living room so he can work our couch into the course… good idea, Mort!)

  27. It looks like everyone had fun, even if Jack and Maggie did make up their own versions of the games!
We’re going to try to come up with some fun stuff like that, to change it up a bit from our usual fetch and pool play (hopefully we can get Cricket to cooperate).
