Jack and the White Poppy

Share Button

Last week we showed you our favorite tree – our Jack-aranda tree. This week we want to share a flowering shrub we are trying to get growing in our garden. It’s a white poppy that grows wild by the side of the road in our valley…but can I get it to grow in my yard? Barely.

We finally got one bush to grow – it’s behind Jack in this picture.

And here’s what the flowers look like. The bees certainly like them.

    • Unfortunately with all the flowering trees and bushes we have a thriving bee population.

  9. WOW, GREEN GRASS!! I’m jealous! The flowers are beautiful! We have mostly weeds and dirt in our back yard — ugh — the only drawback to having oak trees for shade. But in South Carolina you need shade trees.

  12. It’s such a pretty flower. Maybe since it does so well along the road, you know because it is ignored there…maybe you should ignore yours and see if it just does its thing?!? Happy WW

    • Yeah it needs lots of sun and dry…I think my yard gets too much water – sprinklers for the grass.

  14. That is lovely! I have tried many times to grow wild honeysuckle that I have dug up and transplanted to my yard. Each time it is an epic failure! You look like you’re having better luck with this!

    • Not really – it’s just California, so everything grows pretty good if you water it.

  23. You guys have such a pretty yard! Jealous! I never see a fence. Do the dogs just stay in the yard? Or is the fence hidden in the pics?
Lindsay recently posted…Are Frontline and other flea prevention products bad for dogs?My Profile

    • It’s all fenced – just well hidden by bushes and trees. It’s about an acre and our neighbors have lots of trees etc. They would probably stay in the yard though – I can open the gate and they don’t leave.
