Historical Mischief

Today’s mischief tale comes to you from the original SlimDoggy pup, our chocolate Lab Sally, or Sweet Sally Brown. We got Sally just a few short months after we moved to California from New York City. We were so happy to be out of the ‘rat race’ and the snow and figured we’d celebrate our new lifestyle with a new puppy.
My sister and niece drove with me to Riverside, CA where we met this wonderful litter of pups and their mom and picked out our little girl. We brought Sally home when she was just 8 weeks old and as you can see, she was a little bundle of chocolate goodness as I like to say. But Sally has also been our most mischievous dog – probably BECAUSE we got her as a pup and not a senior like our last three.
Sally and her dad had a special relationship. Can you tell which one of them is having more fun?

One of our favorite Sally mischief tales is from our wedding. We got married here in CA, a wonderful backyard barbecue when Sally was just four months old. It was a great party with about 30 close friends and family. It was Sally’s first real exposure to a big group of people and she was in heaven. The best part was one of our friends had two young girls – probably about 4-6 and they of course loved Sally. They had tons of fun running around the yard playing chase, tag, and whatever other games three little girls play together.
Where’s the mischief you ask? Well, here’s one of my favorite pictures of the day. You can see the sun has gone down, Steve and I are having our casual version of a wedding dance and Sally…well she’s busy working clean-up in the driveway from where the buffet line was. We never even saw her there until the pictures came back.

(Oh and remember those days when you had to wait to get photos back?)

  3. I love to read peoples’ stories of their first dog, or their first dog together. So sweet! And Sally looks like such a cutie. I think the mischief our dogs create is part of what endears them to us, even when it exasperates us at the same time.

And I LOVE your wedding dance photo with Sally in the background!

  22. What great pictures! I love looking at old photos of our dogs. Our first and special dog was Nala. Your pictures reminded me of my husband and her. They had a relationship much like Steve and Sally. I knew I was in trouble when he stopped kissing me hello when he got home and starting heading for her first 🙂
