Fromm Family Pet Food, of Mequon WI, US, is voluntarily recalling three of its products sold in the U.S. due to improper vitamin and mineral content.  The voluntary recall, announced on March 18,2016, was specifically made due to elevated Vitamin D levels in the recalled foods.

The three Fromm Family products being recalled are:

gold-dog-can-chicken-212 oz. can of Gold Chicken Pate Dog with an individual can UPC code: 72705 11892

gold-dog-can-chicken-duck12 oz. can of Gold Chicken & Duck with an individual can UPC code: 72705 11894

gold-dog-can-salmon-chicken-212 oz. can of Gold Salmon & Chicken Pate with an individual can UPC code: 72705 11890

According to the Company website, these cans were shipped to pet distributors only between December 2015 through February 2016.  Due to the lengthy distribution cycle in the pet food industry, these products might not have made it, en masse, to retail outlets and could instead be sitting in distributor warehouses.

Consumers with questions are advised to contact Fromm Family Pet Foods directly at (800) 325-6331.

  1. Where do you guys get your recall information from? Is there a central source? This kind of info is definitely something I’d want to have actively sent to me for the food I buy, rather than something I passively read about a week after the recall is issued.

  2. I’ve seen you can get on this site’s registery for recall alert but have not subscribed yet myself.

  3. Pet food recalls are always scary. My daughter’s dog became extremely ill after eating a brand name dog treat. No recall was ever issued and the company offered to reimburse them for the price of the treat.

  5. Huh, I don’t think I’ve ever seen elevated Vitamin D levels as a cause for a recall. I never stop learning!
