Bully Alert

Pawnation.com wrote a piece on the study on Bully Stick dog treats by Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in the U.S. and the University of Guelph in Canada.  Bully Stick Dog Treats Contain High Calories, Bacteria: Study – PawNation

The news was not good.  As one would assume, these treats can be relatively high in calories– almost 100 calories which is a lot for a treat.  Worse was the news that “some of the 26 bully sticks tested contained some alarming bacteria, including one with Clostridium difficile, one with the dreaded methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (aka MRSA) and seven with E. coli.”

I know that my dogs love these things and I can work off the calories because we run a lot, but the bacteria list is stunning.  I guess we will look for safer and healthier options.
