Benefits of Balance

Our A to Z Challenge letter today is “B” and we’re posting about the Benefits of Balance.

Today is also Wordless Wednesday, so I’m going to keep it brief. Luckily, one of my favorite pictures of SlimDoggy Jack is one that demonstrates one of the regular exercises we do with him to improve his balance and strengthen his core:

  1. That is a very descriptive photo. Most especially with long backed dogs (like Brychwyn and Wilhelm) we have to focus on balance and core strength every single day!

    • Good point – core strength is critical for them.

  3. Jack looks a tad distracting while working on balance. Perhaps there was a squirrel? 😉

  8. Thanks for visiting my dogs. You will meet other Labradors at various stages during A-Z as I have spread them around a bit.
    You take a good photo.

    • Thanks – it’s not skill, mostly luck and a good model 🙂

  9. We use a wobble board with Honey. But I wonder if the softer surface you use with Jack would be more comfortable for her.
Pamela recently posted…Walking Barefoot in the Snow – A Dog World ProblemMy Profile

    • Wobble Board are good, but the cushion does provide a softer surface and ups the challenge a bit too because it doesn’t just move on one plane. Try it.

BTW is there any way I can edit my URL that I entered for your A to Z blog hop? I didn’t realize it stayed up the whole time and I only entered Day one in the link. If not no worries. Thanks Slim! Have a great day!

  13. Looking fit, trim and balanced. I also use the pushing exercise you demonstrated to keep Eko off balance at the park – as a side bonus it also riles him up to do some more running.

    • Yes, it does rile them up too, although I have the feeling Eko would run all day long.

  17. Sydney fell down this morning. She was running to get outside and slipped on the garage floor. She was up and out the door in no time, but I wonder if working on her balance is something we should start now instead of later.

  20. What a great photo! I read someplace that three-legged dogs should use these to strengthen their legs. My tripawd is always slamming his one front leg (too hard, it seems to me, but it doesn’t seem to phase him in the least), but his legs are very, very strong. Something to think about, maybe I’ll try it one of these days.
Kathy recently posted…A to Z Challenge, Day 2: B is for Black Cats #atozchallengeMy Profile

    • He’s other legs certainly have to compensate and are probably very strong. Some extra balance certainly will help him.

  25. Mom says her sense of balance is one of her most important attributes. We think if she didn’t have such good balance she would have landed flat countless times by now because of our walking antics and all the ice and stuff we try to trip her up on. It is important for us too and especially now getting ready for dog bikini and swimming season. K9 FitBone is waiting for me!

  26. Balance (and core strength) are both SO important! Nice choice for a B word. (Oh… Core strength… is that your C post for tomorrow? I’m having fun trying to guess the posts people will put up for this A to Z challenge. Wish I’d had time to play along, but hopefully next year.)
Jackie Bouchard recently posted…Less Wordy Wednesday: Crazy Dog Lady ArtMy Profile

    • Nope, C is not core. We published out list of topics a few weeks ago so anyone who wanted to join in on any day could…but no peeking ahead.

  28. That is a beautiful photo! I’ve never tried any types of balance exercises with Sadie. Would that kind of balance equipment work with a little dog? It looks like it might be too high for Sadie. Or do they make small dog sizes?
Mary from YourDesignerDog recently posted…B is for Beg – #atozchallengeMy Profile

    • They do come in different sizes, so you could get one that is just right for Sadie.

Super slim Pixel coming by after FAR too long a time since we last visited. I hope you all are well. So what is the name of that very cool looking balancing tool? It looks like fun. How does it work? I know, too many curious Schnauzer questions.
I’m wondering if it would help me in my survivalist training? Hmmmm…..
I’d love to have you come by to see what I’ve been up to. Take care and have a great Friday!
