Activities
We let you track activities in 3 ways:
1- General estimate based on the intensity level and average daily activity time. When you first setup your dog in the App, you will be asked for this information. The result is a solid estimate of your dog’s average daily calorie burn.

2- Activity estimate using manual entry. This feature allows you to log in your dog’s activity. Choose the activity type, duration, and distance (if walking or running) and we translate this into an activity specific calorie burn.

3- Activity estimate using GPS. This feature uses your phones timer and GPS to track your activity time and. for your walking and running activities, the distance covered. We translate this into an activity specific calorie burn.

Feeding
Search our database which has calorie amounts for over 2000 foods and treats. You can also add custom food to input foods not in our database as well to add other human foods (e.g., bacon). Use the ‘auto feed” function in the app to set up a normal feeding so that you can set it and forget it.

  1. [...] SlimDoggy App [...]

  2. MY jack russell terrier is 6 1/2 years old and in the last 2 years has gained weight drastically . Even with my vets counseling i lowered her intake to 1/3 cut in morning and 1/3 between 530-6 at night. With 1/2 unsalted green beans if she still acts hungry. Well at first she showed a change in weight and than she gained all this back after my husband comes home from his job feeding her table scraps. I can not walk her as much as i should with a disease i have giving me issues but i put her out in the fenced in yard and she just sits there and watches things unless a rabbit or squirrel run by than she runs. She was eating birds last year when i cut her food back i know she killed at least 6.

    • We can help. Let us know her current weight, target weight, and what kid of food you feed her.

  3. [...] SlimDoggy – For iOS. This app breaks down the math and takes the mystery out of helping your dog lose weight and stay fit. Using a calories in vs. calories out setup, you track what your dog eats and their activities, and the app will let you know if you’re on track to get your dog to their ideal healthy weight. With a database of over 1,800 brand name pet foods, the app already knows the calorie content in a cup or two of your dog’s food. 4. Is there any chance of this becoming available for android?

    • Yes, we are working on an android version.

  5. Hi, as someone who works in the veterinary industry I am interested in your app’s potential to help pet owners understand why their pets are becoming obese. I downloaded the free version to check it out, and it seems your database of food does not include human food. Is that available on the paid app? I would be very interested in giving you more input if you want to email me directly.

  6. Does the food list include raw meat?

    • No, it is a list of commercially available dog food (dry, can, treats, and some raw recipes). But you can add your own foods and their calories by using the “custom food” option.

  7. Steve, I’m having an aggravating little issue with the app lately and I can’t figure out why, or how to fix it….

The last few weeks — since just before Christmas actually — every time I have opened the app, the pictures I saved for each of my 3 knuckleheads is replaced with your standard SlimDoggy head. At first I thought maybe it was because I had so many pix in my camera roll. So, I have spent the last several nights uploading the pix to my two online photo storage sites so as not to lose them. Then I deleted all but 50 of them to free up some space. But, I just went back into the app after having re-saved the pix to the profiles about half an hour ago and they’re missing again.

Should I just delete the app and reinstall it, again (like I did in October)? Or can you fix it with an update?

  8. Suggestion: could you pretty please make it an option to choose weight or volume for custom foods, instead of just volume? For those of us adding “people foods” to the list, like plain meats and vegetables, the nutrition data is so much easier to calculate with weight. I can get the nutrition data almost instantly for a pound of ground turkey, but not for a cup.

  9. What a cool app. I’ve been so focused on losing weight I have sort of forgotten about my beloved Golden Retriever. She isn’t overweight but she’s still considered a puppy (she’s less than 3 yrs old.) But this would be a good program for her just the same. I will have to check this out. Thank you for your post.

  10. Is there an update on the Adroid App becoming available? I’d love to try this product but I’m still not seeing it in the Android Market… Please help! :)

    • The Android version is delayed indefinitely. We have added all of the tracking & search functionality on the blog so you can do most of what the App does there. Sorry.

  11. This is amazing, the databse with food/calorie counts is great because it’s disregarded a lot of times when it comes to our dogs health.
