2015 in Review

For the 2014 New Year, we asked our readers to share a photo of their dogs proclaiming their resolutions for the year. Many of you participated and we hope you go back and look at your resolutions and see how you did.
Last year, we didn’t make any ‘formal’ resolutions for 2015, but we did continue working on our 2014 resolutions. Jack still works his back legs almost every night and I think it’s made a huge difference in his ability to still get around as well as he does. Maggie’s resolution to rehab her shoulder hit a bump in the road when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma mid-year, but her radiation and chemo treatments have done wonders for her and she continues to exercise with us on a regular basis.
happy new year
Year-end is also the SlimDoggy Blogiversary. We first launched our blog in December 2012. We’ve written over 1,000 posts, on topics within our core food, fitness and fun area, but we’ve also covered health issues with our SlimDoggy Health Check series, and some behavior issues in our other series: Dear Labby and Mythbuster.
Our five most popular blog posts offer a nice mix of our food and fitness focus:

  1. Hind Leg Exercises for Dogs: The Slimdoggy Squat
  2. Is Olive Oil Good for Dogs?
  3. Is Rosemary Bad for Dogs?
  4. Benefits of Strength Training Your Dog
  5. Is Papaya Good for Dogs?

Just like last year’s Blogiversary recap, our posts on Dog Life Spans remains in our top ten, as does our post on When did Overweight Labs Become the New Normal?. A surprise appearance in our top ten blog posts was our Dear Labby post on: Why Does My Dog Sleep on My Clothes? I guess lots of dogs sleep on their owner’s clothes!

Our posts that received the most comments in 2015 were our series on Maggie’s osteosarcoma diagnosis and treatment. Lots of love and best wishes sent her way for a speedy recovery. It was all very much appreciated. Other big draws were our Fat Labs at Westminister 2015 follow-up, our FitDog Friday posts are always popular too.
We’d like to take a moment to thank all of you who read our blog regularly. We truly appreciate your loyalty and hope that you enjoy Jack & Maggie’s antics, but also learn a little something about exercise & nutrition along the way.

We would love to hear what was YOUR favorite 2015 SlimDoggy post?

  7. I guess dogs sleeping on clothes virtually eliminates the need for ironing! At our house the cats do the clothes sleeping thing, Bailie is more the steal and shred type! Happy New Year’s Eve!

  12. Your inspiring and thought provoking posts about doing our very best for our pups. Those are my fav’s. They stick with me. Often I find myself in the stores, leaning against the wall reading absodoodletutely everything on ingredients. And if there’s something I can’t pronounce or don’t recognize AND no one can elaborate on it, I leave it! You’ve taught me to ask more, and be slow to add to their diets. I’m grateful and proud to call you “friend.” So you stay Slim and we’ll stay Groovy and let’s have a great 2016 together!
